SD Kelas 1

Belakangan ini, di berbagai mailing list yang saya ikuti, ada posting mengenai tragisnya hubungan antara orang tua dan anak di Indonesia, yang menurut pengirim terwakili dengan gambar ini (dikutip tanpa izin, maaf sebelumnya):

Tapi, bagi saya, soal itu yang salah kaprah.

Soal-soal seperti ini yang membuat anak Indonesia bodoh. Sama sekali merugikan bagi anak itu, bisa membuat anak itu akhirnya cuma tahu menghafal saja, apalagi kalau si anak protes, gurunya tetap ngotot dan menyalahkan si anak. (Adakah anak kelas 1 yang protes nilai?)
Dari segi interpretasi gambar ke-3 jawaban di nomer 2 itu jawaban A & B benar, apalagi kalau ternyata ayahnya adalah seorang cross-dresser, maka ke-3 jawaban (A-B-C) itu benar.
Yang menjawab ini pasti anak-kota. Soalnya mana ada lagi sekarang ibu-ibu di kota pakai kebaya gituan di rumah? Kecuali ya si Mbok.. Apalagi rambutnya lebih mirip dikonde daripada dire-bonding.
Bagi saya sebenarnya justru gambar itu adalah gambar seorang wanita ingin mematahkan leher si anak… jadi kata siapa ini tentang kasih sayang?? (sengaja 2 tanda-tanya!)

Anak SD kelas 1 kok disodori pertanyaan yang butuh interpretasi dan pemahaman seperti ini, udah gitu ambigu pula gambarnya. Mestinya menurut saya kalau anak SD harus disodori gambar, harus gambar ibu-anak yang familiar bagi mereka, contohnya mungkin gambar Marge & Bart Simpsons. Itu baru harus disalahkan kalau si anak masih pilih pembantu. Tapi itupun relatif, kalau si anak tidak pernah lihat serial The Simpsons gimana?

Kalau soal no. 1 atau 3 masih mending, tidak ada interpretasi, justru lebih menggunakan nalar.

Mari kita protes yang buat soalnya

Learn Today!

Things I learned today:

Be prepared to interview someone or two at any day, they might just come when you least expect them to show up.
Because there’s such thing as the 32 Forbidden Interview Questions, be more creative on the questions, and that’s hard especially with candidates with no previous work experience, fresh grads, or lower level workers (janitor, delivery boy, etc).
Don’t write too much e-mail, focus on your main job.. I’ve got 3 contracts due tomorrow, and it’s way over my working hours now
No matter how stupid the leader is, but when they win his/her followers heart, the followers would die for him/her.

It’s time to go home

Makassar Solar Halo

My wife called me this morning, about 10.50 AM. I thought she wanted to remind me to pick her up and together go and pick up our son from school, but I was wrong.

“There’s a solar eclipse right now!!!! People here are all outside, watching the sky, using sun-glasses. People are taking pictures. Just go outside and see it for yourself.”

“What? A solar eclipse? It’s impossible, there’s no news about it, and it isn’t dark outside.”

I was near the entrance door of my office, I looked outside, everything seems OK, no sign of supposed-to-be dark solar eclipse situation. But, I step outside, and look up to the sky, there’s something strange allright, there’s some sort of rainbow near the sun. Curious, I step further outside, to the street in front of my office, look up, and while trying to block the sun with my hands, I see a big Halo, surrounding the sun.

No, it wasn’t a solar eclipse this morning that appeared to everyone in Makassar, but it was a Solar Halo. People aren’t familiar with this phenomenon and almost everyone refer to it as an eclipse, they thought that the big round thing was the moon, covering the sun.

Anyway, I took a great picture of it. I tried to take the picture near my house, but there are always electrical cords hanging all around and ruin my picture. So, after picking up my son, we decided to go to an area called Tanjung Bunga, which I know has no electrical cords hanging in the streets, specially along the Metro street. So, I stopped a while, open the car door a bit, and look straight up with my (new) camera.. and here’s the best picture i’ve got:

I took a total of 75 pictures of the halo, and this is the most round and full of the halo. Using ISO 100 and -1 Exposure, this image is still disturbed by my car door at the right-up corner and left-bottom corner. My eyes are still uncomfortable now, specially when I close it

BTW, I also wanted to take pictures of people taking picture of the halo, but I only got one:
