Active Speaker

I learn something new today, tiny information actually. I learn what active speaker is and why it is called ‘active’. I use this term in daily conversation, but never really understand what it means. So (for work purpose), I looked up what Active Speaker means in Google, and this is the result:

bq. A speaker which includes an integral power amplifier to power or drive the speaker.

Another thing I learn is the ‘define’ keyword in “Google(our dear uncle)”:http://google.com, which is usable to look for word meanings. So in my case, it was ‘define:Active Speaker‘.

So, it is called active because it has an independent power line, which results in an independent capability to boost up many things (esp. Volume) for the sound system. I remember my first PC-loudspeaker, not an active one, it has no volume manager of itself and depends solely on output volume from the PC’s sound card.

Now, i can tell the difference between active and non active speakers..

ubuntu cd

Today, I received a mail (snail), ordering me to take something (a package) at the post office. I didn’t go and take it, instead I send one of our employee to take the package for me. The post office isn’t far from our house, so after a while he’s back with a white package.

To my surprise, it was a package from ubuntu linux team. I got 15 (as I ordered) pairs of Ubuntu Linux cds, every pair is one Install version and one Live version.. Here are some (blurry and large) images:

All of the cds are of version 5.04, AKA(Also Known As) Hoary Hedgehog, for Intel x86 platform. The best part of the cds is the sentence: “You are legally entitled and encouraged to copy, share and redistribute this CD for yourself and your friends. Share the spirit of Ubuntu!” at the back of the cover. That is what I am most proud of..!

Hm.. Now, I have to share at least 13 of them.. anybody interested?

Brain test dari ‘pakar’

Sudah lama saya tidak menulis di weblog ini, saya sibuk dengan urusan kerjaan (alasan klasik blogger malas ) yang makin mendekati deadline..

Tadinya saya tidak ingin secara langsung mencela orang lewat blog ini. Tapi yang ini sudah keterlaluan.

Disamping berbagai kesan terhadap Roy Suryo, termasuk komentar/bahasan yang bagus dari Priyadi baru-baru ini, ada hal lucu yang disampaikan RS baru-baru ini mengenai ‘foto bugil’ Puteri Indonesia, Artika Sari Devi.

Hari ini (atau tepatnya kemarin), saya secara ‘tidak sengaja’ menonton salah satu infotainment di televisi. RS tampil dan mengatakan bahwa ‘sebenarnya’ dia hanya ingin menguji salah satu ‘B’ yang dimiliki Artika, yaitu Brain. Apakah Artika tahu darimana foto bugil yang dikatakan sebagai foto Artika itu berasal. Dan menurut RS, ternyata Artika tidak tahu (atau gagal dalam tes itu), (more…)

Bill Gates

Ini berkaitan dengan kunjungan presiden kita(Indonesia) ke Amerika baru-baru ini. Saya juga baru nyadar ketika salah seorang peserta milis id-foss di googlegroups nanya, ada berapa orang kepala negara sih yang pernah ngunjungi BG?
Akhirnya saya coba nge-search.. hasilnya secara singkat:

- BG pernah ngunjungi/ketemu dengan presiden Maldives.
- BG juga pernah ngunjungi/ketemu dengan presiden Cina.
- BG pernah ketemu dengan presiden Ukraina (tapi ini kemungkinan = dead link, dan saya ngga bisa bahasa Ukraina).

Itu sebagian dari hasil search di google yang saya temukan.
Lucunya, tak satupun yang mengindikasikan bahwa si presiden _datang_ ngunjungi pak BG.. yang ada malah si BG yang datang ngunjungi pak pres… Aneh Lucu juga ya

Cleaning Up

I’m cleaning up my hard-drives these days, making space for a big (’bout 15+Gb) library of resourceful files of Onno W. Purbo. Doing so, i need to delete some movies i’ve stored in my hdd, also some old setup files..

As I browse through my setup files, it’s amazing, how my windows’ application/setup files sum up to more than 8 Gb, compared to 3 Gb of linux files.. I must try to do more with linux. Of that 8 Gb, almost 2 Gb is allocated for Adobe‘s applications.. so that explains it. I’m (trying to take time) learning Gimp, it’s a lot like photoshop, but still very different in many ways.. and that’s frustating! Also with Audacity, quite similar to audition, but still, frustating!

Anyway, this is just an ‘iseng’ post, i’m posting this message using a program I got from fedora-extras archive.. I don’t even know the name, I’ve just installed a LOT of extra programs, and found this one hanging in my ‘start menu’ list of accesories.. I give it a try.. and… whaalaa.. there goes my ‘iseng’ post..

1 Ons MEMANG 100 Gram

Saya pikir hoax tentang 1 ons bukan 100 gram sudah mulai mereda, berhubung sudah banyak pihak yang memunculkan sanggahan (termasuk saya di beberapa milis yang saya ikuti). Tetapi ternyata berita konyol ini masih saja beredar di berbagai milis.
