Long time no post.. it’s hard to start writing again :P

Then, let’s just start with pictures:

And a last shot of my current desktop:

Mobile computing has come to a new era with this technology. The pictures you have seen above is a picture of my workstation at MCEC(Makassar Cyber Education Center), with a DSL(DamnSmallLinux) running. The distro I use daily is Fedora Core, which is installed on the hard drive of the pc you’ve seen above. But, using just a simple USB(Universal Serial Bus) Flash Drive, my machine is now running DSL, live.

The 512MB flash drive is a gift I give myself on my 25th birthday just recently :P, and it (I call it Jogr) is loaded with 2 linux distros on 2 partitions, one is DSL, which you’ve seen, and the other is SLAX, killbill edition. Too bad my machine cannot boot from SLAX, The BIOS only sees one partition of the Jogr, the first one, which contain DSL.

The installation of DSL is quite simple, and could be done from a running linux, with a simple 5 steps of installation, which you can read/find at DSL’s ftp server/mirrors. While the installation of SLAX was done using Window$, with a tool called MySlaxCreator or something like that :P

The other great thing about DSL, the OS can start in an ongoing Windows or Linux; OS inside OS, using QEMU. All you have to do is run a simple script called dsl-windows.bat (for windows) or dsl-linux.sh (for linux). And you have yourself a running copy of DSL right inside of your current Operating System.

This is something else, this is great, this is quite a revolution.

ubuntu cd

Today, I received a mail (snail), ordering me to take something (a package) at the post office. I didn’t go and take it, instead I send one of our employee to take the package for me. The post office isn’t far from our house, so after a while he’s back with a white package.

To my surprise, it was a package from ubuntu linux team. I got 15 (as I ordered) pairs of Ubuntu Linux cds, every pair is one Install version and one Live version.. Here are some (blurry and large) images:

Ubuntu Linux CD - Front Cover Ubuntu Linux CD - Inside
Ubuntu Linux CD - Back Cover Ubuntu Linux CD - 15 of them
Ubuntu Linux CD - Stack of 15

All of the cds are of version 5.04, AKA(Also Known As) Hoary Hedgehog, for Intel x86 platform. The best part of the cds is the sentence: “You are legally entitled and encouraged to copy, share and redistribute this CD for yourself and your friends. Share the spirit of Ubuntu!” at the back of the cover. That is what I am most proud of..! :)

Hm.. Now, I have to share at least 13 of them.. anybody interested?

For the last 2 days, i’ve been wondering around MRTG(Multi Router Traffic Grapher). This is a great (and Free) network monitoring tool. We’re using it to monitor and analyze the Ethernet Traffic of our Motorola Canopy™ BWP(Broadband Wireless Platform), which is our main City-wide communication media in MCEC(Makassar Cyber Education Center)

We use this tool on a Fedora Core 3 (with extras) box, which is my daily-use machine at the office. Too bad this machine doesn’t have a public IP, so you cannot see the result of my 2 days work :P

Anyway, our deadline (June 30) is getting closer. By plan, the major of Makassar will be launching our system at that date. Everybody is rushing to finish their job now.. Happy rushing :)

Anyway, idup SBY!

browse happy!

See that link at my links list.. browse happy!
Visit browsehappy.com to see the testimony of many people who switch to other browsers other than IE, and why they did it.

I’m not anti IE or M$, but if there are better browsers, why use the inferior one?
for me, IE is inferior in the case of standardization issues. IE has many flaws in keeping itself up-to-date following the trends and new features in web technology.
This Eric Meyer’s website should show it to us. Try loading the website and parts of it using IE and compare the result with other browsers (e.g. Firefox). IE is like a stupid red-nosed fat stinky and ugly clown :o) , while firefox would shine like barney (the barney series, my son loves this character). I like the quote on WordPress‘ site, “Code is poetry, (use) valid (X)HTML(eXtendible HyperText Markup Language), and valid CSS(Cascading Style Sheet)”.

And I haven’t mention anything about security yet..

Anyways, browse happy, don’t use IE for everyday browsing, use them _only_ for updating your Windows, if you have one that is.. :)
